Slight Curl Relaxer? Hair Cut?

I have really curly, thick hair. Not all of my curls are completely tight, mostly the ones around my face tend to be the tightest, then the rest are either ringlets, or just looser curls. My hair is pretty long now, it's about to the middle of my chest, and I really really want to get it cut! I've had this same hair style for the last 6 years or so. I haven't ever really done anything amazing with it. I still get compliments on it and everything, but I'm really bored with my hair and I want to do something different with it. I really wanted to get my hair cut, but I just don't know what hairstyle I should get it cut into because I have a widows beak, full cheeks, a square jaw, and a kind of pointy chin, I guess. So I think that I kind of have a heart-shaped face, with a more prominent square jaw. What hair cuts would look good with my face shape?

I was also really considering getting my hair slightly relaxed (if that's possible) because I'm almost positive that if I cut my hair, the curls will just get tighter and it will look like a mess. I was wondering if there is any products or treatments (not too expensive) that could relax my curls just a little bit. I don't want my hair straight at all, but I just don't want the tighter curls because I feel that the looser curls might make me look a little more put together, I guess. Please help! I need opinions.

i was thinking something like this :http://womenshair.about.com/od/haircutss鈥?/a>Slight Curl Relaxer? Hair Cut?
i had really curly hair too

and you can get just a slight relaxer, thats what i did. and if you decide after that the relaxer isnt enough, then you cant get another one on top of that. wait like 4 or 5 months though!!

yes if you cut it it will get curlier. you should try straightening it

Chemical Hair Straightner/Relaxer?

IS there any chemical hair relaxer that is safe and won't damage your hair?Chemical Hair Straightner/Relaxer?
All hair straightener/relaxer can do damage the hair up to a certain extent. Remember they are chemically-based. That is the reason why it has to be done by a salon expert and after a relax, they have to put hair treatment to combat dryness. Just make sure that you don't do it so often. Once a year relax is safe enough.Chemical Hair Straightner/Relaxer?
Just get it done at a salon they usually use safe relaxers, and they know how to apply them in a way that wont damage your hair

I have relaxed hair so could i put a texturizer in it instead of a relaxer next time i want to relax it?

I am an African American.I have relaxed hair so could i put a texturizer in it instead of a relaxer next time i want to relax it?
have you tried a texturizer before? Me personally, i don't like them, but yeah, you can...As long as you wait at least 8 weeks with normal shampoo and conditioning in between...

I have a relaxer but have decided to try to wear my hair curly for the summertime. What products should I use?

I'm Black and have long hair. Yes, it's all mine (not from the hair store neither).I have a relaxer but have decided to try to wear my hair curly for the summertime. What products should I use?

What is a good relaxer to use on my hair?

I've been getting relaxers in my hair since I was 16, and all the way up until now they've been working great! Now I'm 25 and I've noticed that the relaxer I currently use maybe the reason why my hair is thinning out and shedding more than it used to. I only relax my hair every 8-12 weeks so I don't think I'm over processing. I is very dry at times though and I HATE using oily hair products.........any suggestions???What is a good relaxer to use on my hair?
I very rarely relax my own hair. Maybe every few years, if that. Go to a salon. It sounds like you should start using a hair cream for the damage that the relaxers are doing to your hair. Everyone hates oily hair products but you must use something to keep your hair healthy. I prefer creams to oils. What is a good relaxer to use on my hair?
Don't use relaxers... I love beautiful curly hair... like Taylor Swift's... I relaxed my hair and I HATE it, and it's taking forever to get back to it's curly self... I hate it...

Relaxer hair treatment & waiting to swim...?

I found out AFTER my first hair relaxer treatment had started that I would have to wait three days before tying my hair up or getting it wet. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I have to go to my friend's sweet 16 tomorow - at the new Aquatica water park. There's no way I can get around this one, and I won't walk around the park in a shower cap.

I figure if I tie my hair up (loosley, without twisting) it might keep my hair out of the water 70% of the time - there's no avoiding the fact that it will get wet.

I will be at the water park a day and a half after the relaxer treatment ended. Will my hair be okay if I do this? What might happen to it?

At this point, I'm quite frusterated, so I honestly don't care if the treatment doesn't last months and months. I just don't want my hair to be destroyed.

Thanks!Relaxer hair treatment %26amp; waiting to swim...?
Nothing will happen. If it gets wet your hair will simply go back to it's normal state until you get your next relaxer or straighten it with a flat iron, etc. It's just kind of a waste of money if you get your hair wet afterwards, that's all.
  • how to apply
  • Relaxer + hair highlighting = extremely bad, or just bad...?

I'm 12 years old and in 6th grade.

I've been getting my hair relaxed with Dark %26amp; Lovely since 3rd grade, so now my hair is straight instead of its nappy, curly self (unless I get it wet with water if its raining..then it becomes a foot and a half wide poof)

I want to get my hair highlighted also, NOT DYED. HIGHLIGHTED. I want like, maybe red, or really really light brown highlights.

My mom said no because its too expensive to get relaxed and highlights, because of the frequency of touch-ups, and its like, $175 if I do both, which she doesn't want to have to spend every 3 months.

She also said no because its extremely bad for my hair and it'll break and fall off.

I know relaxers have chemicals that can strip your hair of essential nutrients/moisture/whatever and that it really dries your hair out.

I know that coloring does the same, and you can be allergic to natural coloring, like with violet.

And, that I'd have to deep condition really often, I already have to atleast every 2Relaxer + hair highlighting = extremely bad, or just bad...?
I think you should listen to you mom. She right to a certain point when she says your not a white girl. Trust me i know how annoy this can be. my mom says it to me too. I'm 15 but last year i had a phase where i wanted to die the ends of my hair red ( my hair is relaxed) but i asked my parents and they both said no. I was soooooo upset! but i told alot of my friends i wanted to do it. and guess what? they ended up doing it to their hair!!! i was so shocked and UPSET! but i was kinda glad i didn't do it because one of my friends hair got really damaged and her ends got trashy (she's filipino) my other friend her hair looks ORANGE now (she's black) and i just got over it bc i'm not a follower so once they did it i was like scrap dat! lol yes they bit my style but what can i do?

anyways back to your question. Personally i think you started relaxing your hair too young. but thats my opinion please don;t get upset. I just say this because if your hair isn;t cared for it's more prone to damage and breaking than an older black woman with relaxed hair. I wouldn;t recommend anyone perming their hair that is younger than 13. but anyways its done , let me move on. I don;t think you should highlight it because you;ve already relaxed your hair at such an early age, give yourself some time to grow up (cause your only in grade 6) experience other things in life, focus on being a kid/pre-teen. Trust me i've heard this ALOT too it can get annoying! but i say this bc i feel like i can sorta relate to you. Think about it if you do everything while your young you'll get bored later on in life. Cause you would have already done everything! Also its not good to relax and colour or highlight your hair in the same day!! it can damage your hair soooooo much! so don;t do it. If i were you i'd just try strengthing my hair more maybe growing your hair if you want, but as far as highlighting or colouring leave that for when you get older. Stick to deep conditioning your hair thats good. As far as your friend even tho she;s white NO person should dye or highlight their hair very often. Although white people have stronger hair than us their hair is STILL prone to damage.

anyways hope this helps and i hope you take my advice..

sorry this is soo long! but it really feel like i can relate

:)Relaxer + hair highlighting = extremely bad, or just bad...?
Really bad if you use a bleach solution for your hightlights. Check if it has hydrogen peroxide or peroxide in it. You can lighten hair somewhat w/o bleaching which would be better for it. I would just relax it for now, and then see if you still want to color, and make sure you use something gentle to color it.
its not that bad, but watch how often you use it. you can fry your hair and it will fall out
ya, like what the person said above me...

    your hair will fall out.
You will literally probably go bald. Sorry.
Don't use it that often especially because you're 12..

Your hair will really get too dry!!!!!
extremely bad for a 12 yo. Since 3rd grade! Your hair is gonna dry out and fall out in high school!!
Honey you are gonna have to prove to your mom that you are responsible enough to do what it takes in order to take care of your hair. As a mom of a 12 year old, I would look for you to do some research on your hair on line to see what that may do to the type of hair you have. Even as African Americans, we all still have different hair. Ask a couple of beauticians so that you can make a good decision about this. Show your mom that you want to make an educated decision and she may be impressed by that. Also, if it is going to cost more that she spends already, maybe you can let her know that you are willing to earn that money!! Present all of this to her and let her know that you are going to be responsible with this choice and she may very well be willing to reconsider. Before you approach her just ask her to have an open mind to what you are going to be saying to her and that you really need her to listen. This will definitely get her attention and help her to realize just how much this means to you and that you are not being a follower, but a leader!! Good luck honey, best wishes, and stay beautiful!!
Um, I stopped after you said you are in the 6th grade and started when you were in 3rd. You do know that if you continue, you are most probably going to be bald by the age of 21...It might only be highlights, but it's still all crap. The less you put the better. Dying your hair for no reason, especially when you are your age, and mine too because I am not that much older, is not good. It's expensive and a waste of time. I would leave my hair alone if I were you.
Sweetie you are way to young to be dying your hair... seriously that's really tacky to have highlights in your hair at that age... no matter what your friend does... take it from me... i once went behind my mothers back and did highlights when I was 14 and thought it looked great but then realized what stupid decision it was.

And yes it will damage your hair way more than getting it relaxed. And highlights just like any dye means you have to upkeep it... once it starts growing out you need to get it done agian and again... or you'll just have a head that's half one color.

Plus if you have dark hair I say keep it that way. I think it's awful when dark haired girls get highlights... Women shoould only use dye in their hair if it is going to look natural... like light haired girls get lighter highlights and red heads get red highlights etc. Be glad you have a beautiful natural dark hair don't mess it up with other colors... if you want to have a little fun just get those little hair extensions at the beauty store to put on for the night... That way you won't have to deal with roots and damaging your hair more...

    Please trust me...

    Hope this helped
i have had relaxers since i was twelve or so. i'm 18 now. anyway earlier I dyed my hair with an at-home kit (it was like... a month or few ago)

it was ok, but it's not like i'm redying it (it is growing out now, hehe)

anyway I just had a relaxer this weekend my hair is ok.

i don't think it will be too bad as long as you take care of it and you space the treatments out
Wow, I can't believe you mother said that to you about not having ';white-girl-hair';! I am white, but my hair is very curly naturally and can get nappy if I'm not careful. I also known some people of African-descent don't have really kinky hair, just curly.

    Well, where to begin.

To save on money, there are kits you can buy from the department store that you can do highlights with at home (best to have a trusted friend help you). If you do put highlights in at home, I'd suggest just putting them in on the top layer to experiment, and if it goes well, put them through the rest of your hair. You don't need to have tons of highlights either, many girls who go to salons actually only put in some at a time, then when they go back, they put in more.

I thought relaxors actually didn't hurt your hair that much, so it's suprising to hear it. I've read from some websites that certain relaxors do so little to your hair, that you can even perm or dye it right after.

I looked at the Dark %26amp; Lovely products, and it looks like they have relaxors that will help keep your hair in good shape. (Look for the boxes that say ';No-Lye';)

Hair can get damaged and fall off if you overdye it, but putting in some highlights shouldn't do that. Also, does your mother know that the average human head loses 100 strands of hair everyday and naturally? Also, since you already deep condition your hair (and it sounds like you take good care of it), your hair is probably in a good enough condition to highlight it.

My best advice would be to talk to a beautician in a salon who either has your hair type, or has worked with your hair type before, they'd be able to give you the best tips. Always remember, advice from a beautician in a salon is free!

Can I dye my hair 10 days after getting a relaxer?

I basically got a mild relaxer, it's nothing too seriousCan I dye my hair 10 days after getting a relaxer?
ONLY if you use semi permanent dye to color your hair. I once used permanent color and my hair fell out. So to be sure then use semi permanent hair color. If you want to dye your hair with permanent color, then wait about 3 to 4 weeks before you dye it.

I am giving you the best advice I know since my hair fell out and I had not one, not two, but 3 bald spots in my hair. I dont know if you saw the movie ';Daddy's little Girl's'; by Tyler Perry; however, if you remember the secretary to the lawyer in the movie...basically, I had her haircut about 6 years ago, before it was even popular. That was because all my hair fell out, and my boyfriend's sister was gracious enough to cut my hair in that wonderfully ';hot';haircut. It was before it's time somewhat, and it (the haircut) garnered a lot of attention, however, I worked it. So please take it from one who knows, and use a semi-permanent rinse which is actually better for your hair for now! And I thank you for letting me answer this question! phat beatzCan I dye my hair 10 days after getting a relaxer?
    Bad idea.

I bleached and died my hair once and then i relaxed it and it all melted into little mushy clumps.

    don't do it...

Will my relaxer affect my hair after i've recently had it dyed...?

okay so i put a relaxer in my hair today %26amp; i recently had it permanently dyed brownish red.. so will the relaxer i put in today affect my hair in any way now? plz i need help i dont wanna be bald by tonight lol

will it get rid of my color?(gosh I hope not)Will my relaxer affect my hair after i've recently had it dyed...?
Okay, so when did you put the dye in? Give your hair about 2 weeks after you dye it to start relaxing it, so that the chemicals won't counter act each other. I would definitely wait 2 weeks, hopefully it has been that long. Will my relaxer affect my hair after i've recently had it dyed...?

I have relaxed hair.what would happen after i trim the ends off? would the relaxer gorw out a little? or alot?

*include any and evrything thing you know, please!I have relaxed hair.what would happen after i trim the ends off? would the relaxer gorw out a little? or alot?
Trimming the ends of your hair is a technique used to keep your hair healthy. If you keep trimming your hair and not relaxing it your realaxed hair will eventually be cut off because as your natural hair grow, the closer the relaxed hair will get to the ends of your hair and if you continue to trim your ends you will eventually loose the relaxed hair (b/c U would have cut it off).I have relaxed hair.what would happen after i trim the ends off? would the relaxer gorw out a little? or alot?
14 and let it grow and trim off all spit ends to keep hair healthy!
um, your ends will be heathy after a trim. the relaxer will grow out just as much as your hair does every month. hair grows 1/4 of an inch to 1 inch per month usually, so that means about 6 inches a year if you are lucky enough to have it grow an inch per month! it may take a year or two for it to grow out. just make sure you take good care of your hair. get it trimmed ever 3 months to keep the ends healthy and to prevent splits.

Tomorrow I'm getting a relaxer and I have been scratching my head what should i put in my in my hair?

There's this blue gel that my stylist uses..it's called...Ice I believe.....you might want to ask about that or check Sally's or check online....It helps out alot if you've scratched...BELIEVE ME...it works...Tomorrow I'm getting a relaxer and I have been scratching my head what should i put in my in my hair?
    a thermal protector
No No No. You can use the protective gel but it might not cover the area. You will have to wait. The next time you have the urged to scratch pat it instead. It works.
Dont put ANYTHING in it yourself because you dont know what the reaction will be.

    Dont worry, he'll handle it.
    i dunno

If I get a sew on will my hair grow? (I am also growing out of my relaxer)?

I want a sew in and I want curly hair.

If you know of any good brands please tell me and any other tips or suggestions please tell me.

ThanksIf I get a sew on will my hair grow? (I am also growing out of my relaxer)?
Your hair will grow faster with a sew-in, but it will also be thinner and will break easier, ESPECIALLY if you're growing out your relaxer. If you decide to go for it, cut most (if not all) of the relaxed part of your hair. I can't give you any good brands, but I hope this helps some! :-)

6 to 8 weeksHow long should you wait to put a relaxer in hair?
until the roots grow to long.can you answer some of my Q's????How long should you wait to put a relaxer in hair?
This question is best answered by a professional stylist. Relaxers are nothing to play with as they can cause damage to the hair very easily.
after every 4-8 weeks you can relax your hair
You should touch up your roots every 6 to 8 weeks. However, you should not put in a full application of relaxer on your hair until two months after your previous full application. It takes about two months for a relaxer to grow out of the hair strands.

I think you should go natural. I used to get press and curls for a while because I didn't want braids breaking my hair off. you should consult a stylist and see what he/she suggests. I think it really depends on hair length, texture, what you are willing to do, etc. Keep you hair and scalp moist.

go to nappturality.com or naani.com for some tips.
Go to the shop or keep it braided
you should wash in press it, or plat iron it.
well i got mine pressed at the salon u should try that if u don't want your hair 2 fall out
I think the natural look is always beautiful, but if you would like to keep it straight I would say go the pressing comb route and use a thicker grease like royal crown for the time being. Give your hair a chance to bounce back!

I put on a at home relaxer and I over processed my hair. Any Remedies?

I use an the Olive Oil brand relaxer. I'm not rich and I really don't want to cut my hair PLEASE HELP!!I put on a at home relaxer and I over processed my hair. Any Remedies?
Yeah, well I did this once - with a professional. Went in one day to get a relaxer and came back two weeks later for another relaxer. Apparently, I was not well informed on when to get touch-up and my hair fell out from the over processing. Not much I could do to keep from falling out. I recommend to see a professional ASAP for advice and to see if there is something they can do to salvage your strands. Unfortunately, you will have to pay money to keep your hair healthy.

I let my sister put a perm in my hair one year and, since she didn't know what she was doing, my hair went from shoulder-length to above my ears in a week, not exaggerating. Since then I have never let anyone but a licensed professional put in my relaxers. I put on a at home relaxer and I over processed my hair. Any Remedies?
lol well. go to a salon. it doesn't have to be expensive. the egyptians are really good with black hair, they are pretty cheap and they'll help you blow out your hair and get it back to normal. and then later when you want to relax your hair with Olive Oil Extra Virgin which will be a lot less harmful on your hair :). They at the salon should be able to tell you what you should use on your hair to start getting it back to normal

I used relaxer for my hair, and my hair starts to break, what cn i do to stop the hair from braking?

Do not wash it everyday for starters if you already are.

Next put in a leave in conditioner and wrap it overnight while wet.

Buy a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner full of protein and do not use sparingly.

Be sure to brush regularly because you are going to need to get out all the breakage so the new hair can begin to grow in.

Your going to need to do the leave in treatments about 3 times a week and wash it about as much until the new hair growth begins to come in.I used relaxer for my hair, and my hair starts to break, what cn i do to stop the hair from braking?
first of all dont touch it second i dont know if they sell this product where u live but try Tec Italy amino keratin treatment if u cant find this try joico kpak reconstructor use it and mbe very gentle to ur hair buy reconstructing treatments and moisture alot leave ur hair quite and u will see inprovement in 3 weeks u need to rebuild hair strands with protein based products becareful when ur hair gets in good condition stop using protein based products cuz u hair can become brittle again as it coats the strands with a hard layer to reinforce it if u use to much for a long period of time the results arent good use the ones i told u ONCE a week good luckI used relaxer for my hair, and my hair starts to break, what cn i do to stop the hair from braking?

Can a relaxer be put on frizzy ends of your hair while retouching your hair?

If your ends are frizzy it might be because of split ends or damaged hair so i'll suggest you get a trim. Can a relaxer be put on frizzy ends of your hair while retouching your hair?
You shouldn't use a relaxer to ';cure'; frizzy hair. Frizz is common for all hair types, including those with naturally straight hair. You have to use frizz reducing products if you want to get rid of the frizz. I use a product called Wen, but there are many anti-frizz serums that you can try. Or, you can use heat to control the frizz, like a flat iron. I used to use a curling iron. Just make sure you don't burn your hair in the process, because heat damage causes breakage, too.

The only time I've heard of a relaxer being put over already relaxed hair is when it's being used as a corrective treatment - the hair is under-processed. Other than that you risk making your hair fall out, and making frizz go away isn't worth going bald the next week. Can a relaxer be put on frizzy ends of your hair while retouching your hair?
NO only apply relaxer to the new growth applying to ends will result in breakage.

  • Transitioning hair...from relaxer to natural?

hey guys, i'm an african american with permed hair for about 2 yrs now and i'm starting to get annoyed with it...its about down to my chin but it was alot longer when it was natural. i want to grow it back natural now but i need advice on different products to use and styles to put it in and just hair care (deep conditioning, whether i should braid it, flat iron it still, etc..) help please!Transitioning hair...from relaxer to natural?
I've been where you are now. To get back to natural, you will have to let the perm grow out and most probably cut it once the natural growth starts. Natural products will keep your natural hair beautifully soft, eg Shea Butter. Make sure it is unprocessed. Braiding your hair and keeping it well moisturized will encourage it to grow fast. Have fun while you are at it. Double strand twists are also a great style to play around with. Try out different products to find out which work for your hair and different styles too. The main point is to have fun!!Transitioning hair...from relaxer to natural?
i think that if u want to go back to natural hair you should put it in extensions or braids therefore you wont be tempted to perm it like i always do ..lol or if u dont want to do that u could jusst cut it n let it grow our or leave it and when you have regrowth juss strighten it ...hope i helped x

will i damage my hair by doing a relaxer on my own for the first time im touching uop my hair?

    Hi,

If you retouch up your relaxer then be very, very careful not to get it on the already permed ends because they will break off. I'd suggest going to a salon if you can afford it and let a professional do it. I let a family member put in my perm and she didn't know what she was doing and my hair went literally from shoulder length to above my ears in one week. I also had a hairdresser give me a perm two weeks after I got one and all my hair began falling out to. So, if you're not careful then you can really damage your hair. will i damage my hair by doing a relaxer on my own for the first time im touching uop my hair?
Never do your own relaxer! Go to a salon or get a friend or family member who knows what they are doing to do it.

Relaxers are always damaging to your hair. For less damage try a phytospecific relaxer,it is made from natural ingredients but it is pretty expensive $60 a box. It works wonders!

www.phytospecific.com will i damage my hair by doing a relaxer on my own for the first time im touching uop my hair?
DON'T EVER TOUCH YOUR HAIR YOURSELF

dying from boxes or anything else from a box from that matter is SO harsh on your hair.

always go to a salon, the know the right amounts and the right products to use on your hair. although the healthiest way to keep your hair is natural, if you must do anything to it GO TO A SALON!
I tried to relax my daughters hair with a kit once. We followed the directions to the letter and her hair turned out so dry and brittle that not only did it look like straw, we were afraid it would break off. My advice... let someone who is trained in that area do it. If it doesn't turn out well they can help you or refund your money.
I believe you know the answer to your question, and you just don't want to accept it. YES! YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR HAIR. Leave it alone!
as long as you follow the directions precisely you should be fine. Relaxers a tricky!
    whats up with you people?

you damage your hair no matter what!

After you get a relaxer, how many weeks do you have to wait before you can wash your hair?

a week or 2.After you get a relaxer, how many weeks do you have to wait before you can wash your hair?
I wait about 2wks. I tend to have a dry scalp. After you get a relaxer, how many weeks do you have to wait before you can wash your hair?
I believe it's actually only 48 hours. I always waited 2 weeks though to help make it last longer.

HELP! Badly damaged hair from Relaxer treatment :0(?

I used a relaxer treatment on my hair last night and it has completely fried my hair from about 4 inches from the root to the ends. It is brittle when dry and stringy and breaks easily when wet and is coming out in chunks of broken bits. Can anyone recommend to me what i can do apart from getting a crew cut? :0(HELP! if its breaking and coming out in chunks its already too late. You can try neutralizing again and a reconstructor but what you'll have left over will look thin and stringy, so go for the pixie cut and call it a lesson.
Did you do anything else after your relaxer like condition your hair or use heat? If you use heat then you should make sure it's low, use heat protectant or use none at all. After a relaxer you should always netralize well. Then to a reconstructing, and then a light protien and maybe a moisturising treatment. If you haven't done that so far you should. Try things by organic root stimulator, like the hair mayonaise and get the carrot oil by them to use on your hair as a daily cream.

  • Will the brazilian relaxer hurt your hair?

i wantedto try it too, then i researched it and found this article about it possibly causing health problems [even death] from chemicals:

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article鈥?/a>

try it at ur own risk. good luck. Will the brazilian relaxer hurt your hair?
No it does not at all. I've had it done!

Professional hair salons do not use the Brazilian chemical that was causing those problems. The one being used is 100% safe.

I got a relaxer but whenever i straighten my hair its frizzy.thick, and nappy(I am an african american ?

lusters suxxx.my mom used to use that 4 my sisters and it messed their hair up.we use motins stuff now.all their stuff is really good but all i use is the hair lotion and the hair dressing for when i straighten my hair(i thnk thats wat its called-its in a yellow jar and its clear and smells good).use olive oil relaxers or organic ones.idk the names but it says it in big letters on the box.also when i straighten it(hot comb, stove) i put alot of blue magic organic grease in my hair and it makes my hair straight like i just got a perm(i havent had a perm since january).i also use corrioliss straightener to straighten my hair in between the hot comb.i use the hot comb to straighten my roots.dr miracles is only good for weave.i've never met someone that uses it for their real hair and the only ppl i know that use are the ones w/ weaves-lolI got a relaxer but whenever i straighten my hair its frizzy.thick, and nappy(I am an african american ?
You do it yourself? If not, someone needs to be FIRED!

I'd invest in a flatiron to ease the fluff, but dont burn your crop off! To be honest, the realxer may be doing your hair no good, changing your texture and damaging your nugrowth.

As a black woman, i attempt to stay away from relaxing products becuz the overall damage they do, no matter how ';safe'; or ';free of'; chemicals, it's still SOME kinda chemical.

I would look into braids for the winter (our hair tends to get a lil dry...) and try to geta regular press n curl wrap, when they come out. i know, you thinkin ';my hair gon look crazy, it wont stay';, but babygirl, beauty takes patience, and your hair has to ';train'; itself to the heat, but it will. Give it two or three presses, it will get more tame and manageable.

I aint no hair lady but i have pretty healthy hair now, since the relaxer and dying stopped. Shiny, smooth, straight, and my natural texture came bacc. GOOD LUCC!!!

    Bananas
lusters pink hair products ARE HORRIBLE. i don't use them

they make my hair dry. i use either pantene daily oil moisture control (it makes my natural hair feel like it has been relaxed) or profectiv.

as for dr. miracle, i don't think that works, it is regular conditioner with some chemical to make the scalp burn.

are u using a heat protectant? i use vo5, it cost only $4 and it makes ur hair straighten so smoothly with no damage

you may need to get ur ends clipped, cuz that is what it sounds like
try profective products It makes your hair look silky and shiny after and while straightening. (I am african american with thick and relaxed hair)
my girlfriend uses that dr miracles....HORRIBLE..it smells bad too...but yea profectiv is the best...(so i've heard)...
u need to use a spray o creme b4 o afta u relax ur hair.

    sori i dont rely no

Why didn't my relaxer take and can i re-do it without my hair being damaged?

like my whole head is underprocessed a.k.a texturized so can i put on a relaxer again on all my hair to get my hair straight. my last was realxer was four motnhs ago.Why didn't my relaxer take and can i re-do it without my hair being damaged?
go to a salon and have them look at it. dont do it ur self u may end up loosing ur hair. if a salon did it and it didnt take, go back and have them fix it. they shouldnt charge u if they stand by their work. Why didn't my relaxer take and can i re-do it without my hair being damaged?
woah! no! leave it at least 2 weeks for your hair to recover, wash it as little as possible to boost the condition through natural oils. I'd wait then go to see a hairdresser you can trust and see what they say about relaxing it for you then.

    x
I wouldn't. You've already put chemicals into your hair, and putting more may do serious damage (a.k.a. breakage, dryness, etc). You might want to see a hair dresser (which may be hard to do depending on where you live) to discuss the issue.

    Best of luck.
relaxerr=dangerr lol,,if your at home DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING YOUR HAIR YOURSELF.first thing tomorrowgo to professional hair salon that you can trust and make sure they know the condition your hair is in.

    Good luck

Instead of using a relaxer to get my hair soft what can i use?

use a deep conditioner in the shower.. they work wondersInstead of using a relaxer to get my hair soft what can i use?
shampoo and use a deep conditioner to make ur hair more manageable and softer, you can use a ceramic hot iron but make sure you use a hair heat protection product and at night make sure you keep ur hair wrapped so your hair dont break off or lose its oil on the rough cotton materials of your bed (like your pillow)Instead of using a relaxer to get my hair soft what can i use?
If you blow dry your hair before you blow dry it you can put in CHI silk infusion spray found at your local drug store ($16). It has to be heat activated. It makes your hair silk , smooth, and soft!!

    Relaxer Hair Help?..?

What is the best relaxer for coarse really tight curly thick thick!! hair?

    1)dark and lovley

    2)Dr.micrles

    3)Proclaim

    4)Motions..

    describe ? pleaseRelaxer Hair Help?..?
You'll be fine with anything except for Dr. Miracles. I have heard some horror stories about it, though I have not personally used it. Most relaxers are basically the same.

I prefer Motions because I like the deep conditioner. I also like buying a tub of relaxer instead of a relaxer in a box because since you don't have to mix it, it will last you for a while and you will get more for your money in the long run.

The most important thing (if you are going to apply the relaxer by yourself) is to follow the directions. Deep conditioner afterwards. Get a trim afterwards. Don't ever color and relax on the same day...relax first, then color two weeks later.

    Hope this helps.Relaxer Hair Help?..?
honestly, it depends on your hair because there are so many different hair textures for women of color. Once you find one you like, stick with it. I have heard great things about dark and lovley and have also heard that motions can be a bit harsh. You can try a strand test for each relaxer to see how they react on YOUR hair.

I dont have relaxer in my hair, but how long does it take for relaxer to grow out of a person's hair? years?

once the hair is relaxed it will maintain those chemicals. you have to grow and cut. the chemicals remain where put. once grown your roots are the only thing not chemically processed because its new but you will have to grow double the length you relaxed and cut off what was relaxed in time. I hope I am making sense to you I went to cosmetology school and also relaxed my hair my whole life and decided to go natural one time during it.I dont have relaxer in my hair, but how long does it take for relaxer to grow out of a person's hair? years?
well it depends on how long their hair is...

  • Would relaxer work on my hair?

i've been rebonding my hair but it's really expensive. i want to use relaxer to touch up the roots. it should be ok since i havent done anything to my hair in 9 months. i want to know if relaxer would straighten my hair. it's curly and frizzy because i'm half african american. unfortunatly i'm also half asian so it's also really, really thick.Would relaxer work on my hair?
    haha, im just like you.

    I stopped damadging my hair

and just invested in a quality hair straightner.

    I went to the hair salon and got my hair ';thinned out';

it takes so much weight off your hair and its like under $10

The BEST HAIR STRAIGHTNER out there is

CHI its about $200 but its really good!

Also the SEDU and the CORIOLISS striaghtner works really good!

I suggest checking reviews on those and buyign one =]

Rebonding every time is not worth it ! A straightener is =]

What's a relaxer? i heard someone say that you can get a relaxer in your hair. what does that mean?

It breaks down the natural tendancy for some hair to be either curly or kinky. What's a relaxer? i heard someone say that you can get a relaxer in your hair. what does that mean?
It is a chemical process used to straighten curly, kinky, or wavy hair of any ethnic group. It uses a chemical process to relax or straighten the curl or wave out of your hair. What's a relaxer? i heard someone say that you can get a relaxer in your hair. what does that mean?
its for black people...judging by your avatar it doesn't concern you.
It makes curly hair not-so-curly... or nearly straight.
it permanently makes your hair straight just like a perm makes it curly
It just straightens hair. Some people have curly or wavy hair. Instead of having to straighten it everyday a perm allows a semi/permanent fix. It usually has to be touched up every 3-6 months.
It's a chemical similar to what they use to straighten your hair, but isn't as strong. It straightens your hair up to a point but doesn't really have the same effect as a straightener. I'd guess it's probably recommended for people who only have a slight wave.
It's a chemical treatment that relaxes curlier hair. Some are permanent and some last about 3 months.
African americans use these to ';calm'; their har down. They reduce frizz, and make it easier to style.
It's like a perm, but without the chemicals.
You use it if you have really kinky, curly hair. It 'relaxes' the curl so it's easier to straighten if you like.
it relaxes curls in your hair and no, its not only for black people. Anyone with curly, wavy, kinky hair can use it. It makes curls straight. and i am white and i have relaxed my hair before.
it straightens hair that is normally very kinky or curly; this is generally something that mainly black people do. it does make their hair look good though.
It takes the curls from your hair.

But here is a warning: my mom used to go to beauty school and she said that it ruins your hair and she witnessed it first hand.
it's like a reverse perm... it will take the curl out instead of putting curl in! you can get it done at a salon.
it will relax or uncurl it ...........

Whats the average age for a black girl to get a relaxer in her hair?

It depends usually on the child's heair texture and the childs mother.

The average age, honestly is about 6 or 7. I would never put a perm in my daughters hair, but all of the little girls I see around this age have perms. I should say most, not all.

As for me, my daughter will get a perm when she's old enough to make the decision on her own... I guess at about the age of 12.

But I think natural's the way to go.Whats the average age for a black girl to get a relaxer in her hair?
My step mums niece is black and she uses relaxer in her hair, shes about 13Whats the average age for a black girl to get a relaxer in her hair?

Is it okay to permently dye my hair if i have a relaxer in my hair? ?

will it fall out?Is it okay to permently dye my hair if i have a relaxer in my hair? ?
no it won't fall out as long as it is in good condition and it has been over 2 weeks since you had the relaxer! I would not advice using box color! I would have your stylist do it!!Is it okay to permently dye my hair if i have a relaxer in my hair? ?
You have to wait at least 2 weeks. You can go lighter but not too many shades lighter in one application or you will seriously damage your hair. You should also be prepared to switch from a regular to mild relaxer especially if you are looking to go a lot lighter, and get fewer touch ups (every 8 weeks) use less heat styling and deep condition weekly to keep your hair strong and moisturized.
This depends on the type of color you will be using. Do not go lighter... this will be damaging. But if you will go darker use demi-permanent. But of course, the best option is to go to a salon and get it done. They understand the different types of relaxers and color and what will be damaging and what will not.
your hair will become drier because of all the chemicals and thing that you are putting in it... so it will probably break. but if you condition it very well then there is a chance it wont break.
A girl in my class dyed her hair permanently red and she gets it relaxed it hasn't fallen out!
Probably. My aunt put a relaxer in AFTER dying it.... it screwed it up.

Bed head relaxer or chemically straighten hair?

i have curly hair and i want to straighten it, which would be better? and do they really work well?Bed head relaxer or chemically straighten hair?
I've gotten the best results with chemically straighten hair, my hair was shinnier, smoother and nicer. I was so afraid I'd get split ends, but that didnt happen. It was expensive, about 300 dollars, and it lasted about 9 months (my hair grows really fast) if yours doesnt grow as fast as mine you could keep it for about a year or so.

The trick here is that you check with your stylist that he uses one that is like a cream.

I dont have the name of the product my stylist used but it had the followin steps:

1- Rinse hair apply special shampoo

2.-Apply cream, and comb it straight (20 mins)

    3.-Rinse again, apply 2nd cream...wait

4.- Rinse and dry with a straightener and do not wash for 2 days.Bed head relaxer or chemically straighten hair?
I say the Iso chemical relaxer if you Really want straight hair. I havent known many people to use the Bedhead. Dont get me wrong, the line is great, but that product isnt one of their better selling, and I think there must be a reason. Also if you can afford it, get a Chi flat iron...that is soooo worth the money!!
bed head relaxer definitely when u chemically straighten hair it makes u have split ends and makes ur hair very dry and may even change ur hair color
chemically straightening lasts longer and will have better results.

Can I use an at home relaxer on my hair? I'm Caucasian.?

I was particularly interested in Dr. Miracle's hair relaxer because it doesn't have lye in it and it has a good reputation. But is it okay to use on my hair because the advertisements seem to only feature African-Americans. My hair is very thick and poofy. It is very wavy, but not exactly curly. My hair is naturally a light brown, but I dyed it auburn-brown 2 months ago.Can I use an at home relaxer on my hair? I'm Caucasian.?

Will my hair be extremely damaged if I do the Japanese Relaxer (permanent straightening) and dye & highlite it

Right now my hair is black and it's virgin hair. I use to dye it a lot and my hair started to grow more course and wavy. So I am deciding to do the Japanese Relaxer because I heard it is much more healthier than the American Relaxer. But once I do the relaxer, I also wanted to dye it brownish blodne and do blonde highlites. Will it harm my hair badly? I mean I know it will do some damage, but I really want it to be straight and with colors in my hair, I hate using the flat iron to straighten my hair. The hair stylist told me that I can;t do both or else my hair will start breaking off. She told me I have to decide to go with the relaxer or with the dye, and that I can't do both because it is too much chemical. I really want to do both though, but I am scared of the consequences I might have to deal with. The other hair stylist said it was fine to do both, but I should do the relaxer first and wait for a couple of weeks to dye it and such. Please give me some advice please! Thanks %26lt;3Will my hair be extremely damaged if I do the Japanese Relaxer (permanent straightening) and dye %26amp; highlite it
Yes it will damage your hair. Will my hair be extremely damaged if I do the Japanese Relaxer (permanent straightening) and dye %26amp; highlite it
that is ALOT of chemicals. dont do all at once. i would do the relaxer....then see what condition your hair is in...then wait a couple months to do the color....come on, do you want to play around and have broke off, dried out hair?? i didnt think so
Sure. Some bald chicks are hot.

What would happen if I washed my hair every day if I have a relaxer like Just for Me? Will my hair fall out?

If you're african american and with a relaxer you definately should not be washing daily.. There's no need to wash daily. Our hair type is dry, the relaxer makes it even more dry and fragile.. AA hair does not get that daily oily buildup that needs to be washed daily. Once a week is enough and be sure to use a deep conditioner when you wash. Do a hot oil treatment regularly too.

Ummmm why are you interested in washing daily anyway?? Do you swim alot or do you work in a dusty/dirty job setting? Inquiring minds want to know. What would happen if I washed my hair every day if I have a relaxer like Just for Me? Will my hair fall out?
dont wash you hair every day it will get all thin and stuff wash it every other day and put mouse of something in it to style it trust me!!!What would happen if I washed my hair every day if I have a relaxer like Just for Me? Will my hair fall out?
No it wont fall out,but it will leave your hair dry. If you do wash everyday make sure you moisturize. Good luck.
If your a woman of color our hair cant stand daily washings. It will cause the loss of natural oils, plus you added an relaxer to your hair so I will cause it to dry out faster and remove the perm quicker. You're only to wash your hair twice a month. Or once a week depending how much oils, sprays you add to your hair daily. You need to add moisture to your hair, your hair will become dry and brittle.
it's better to wash it every other day as to keep all of your natural oils that keep your hair healthy and protected from the harsh chemicals of the relaxer.
I wash my hair everyday and it doesnt fall out
yes your avatar looks just like me
If you wash your hair everyday with a relaxer your hair is going to go back to how it was originally. Since relaxers are damaging, your washing your hair everyday is going to make it even more damaged. I'm guessing you have African American hair right?? Well for your hair type you only need to wash it once a week. And deep condition.
No your hair won't fall out but it may break off ifyou don't put a deep conditioner on it everytime you wash it. just keep the deep conditioner away from your scalp or you will look greasy! a good cond. is smooth down from redken- works wonders!!

Im biracial so i put a relaxer in my hair every month, i got highlights a few mths ago, can i relax it?

i just wanna make sure my hair doesnt fall out, i was told it wld fall out if i bleached it and it didnt so i think i'll be ok if i relax it like i used to but i just wanna make sureIm biracial so i put a relaxer in my hair every month, i got highlights a few mths ago, can i relax it?
Honestly, I'm not really sure but if I were you I would give it a couple of months. You don't want for fry your hair cause then you are going to have all damaged hair sticking out from all angles. You shouldn't dye, straighten or blow dry for at least a week. Put some leave in conditioner and some spray that will help make your hair strong. Like thermasilk. They have a product at wal-mart that you leave in and it will protect it from heat and whatever else you decide to do to your hair. Just give your hair some time to breathe..Im biracial so i put a relaxer in my hair every month, i got highlights a few mths ago, can i relax it?
Do a relaxer touch-up ever 6-8 weeks only. Touch-up means only on the new growth or you will get damage and breakage. Use moisturizing shampoo to prevent dryness and weekly use equal parts of a moisturizing and protein conditioner or one that already has them together. Set under a hot hooded dryer with a plastic cap for 15 minutes rinse and style your hair. Clip your hair ends every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends. Follow these instructions will help your hair from becoming dry and brittle from the chemicals. I use a brand of products called Mizani that I purchase at JCPENNYS hair salon these are the best products ever made for relaxed and color treated hair, but they can be expensive but truly worth it. They are formulated by REDKEN and SOFT SHEEN. If you follow these tips your hair will increase in length.
as long as it did well after the highlights

Which relaxer is the best to use for a sensitive scalp?

I have a lot of hair, but it is fragile and thin at the same time....

The relaxers I got when I was little used to burn my hair and scalp so badly. I don't want to damage my hair any further, but hate this in-between stage of straight and curly. And I don't want to keep using a straight iron, b/c I feel like it makes things worse.

Any suggestions?Mixed Hair- Which is the safest/most gentle/most effective relaxer?
You might want to try a no-lye texturizer. Since your hair is fine a relaxer will just fry it all over and lead to damage in the long run. The active ingredient in a texturizer is weaker, so it won't break the bonds in your hair completely. I hear fabulous things about Soft and Beautiful Just for Me Texture Loosener or Soft and Beautiful Texturizer. If you go to a hairdresser, they will mostly likely just try to relax your hair. Have someone with experience, who you trust, and who understands your hair do the chemical processing instead. Hope this helps!Mixed Hair- Which is the safest/most gentle/most effective relaxer?
    i am also mixed.

my mother is white and father is black..

i have a lot of hair, but it is also fine.

i have a very sensitive scalp,

i have been searching for the perfect relaxer for a while..

    and then we had the ';matrix relaxer';

we do the cold treatment, that just loosens the curl,

you leave it on for about 10 minutes,

    and it doesn't burn,

    its a sensitive treatment,

and it is gentle on my hair (haven't had any breakage and its my 5th time doing it)

and it is most definitely effective.

you can get it done at salons, or order it yourself

(i would recommend a salon person doing it for you,

its a timely matter...you have to get it on, and off quickly.)

    really, i recommend it,

    i love it.

    check it out!

    its called the ';matrix';

How to convince my mom to let me get a ';chinese relaxer'; or something for my hair?!?

my hair is strait but sticks out...hard to explain LOL anyways, i am twelve and my mom says she would let me get the chinese relaxer or whatever it is called but the chemicals are bad for my hair. i would straiten it, but it frizzes it like CRAZY after about an hour. i need some help with my hair. i need the strait, SMOOTH look. lol How to convince my mom to let me get a ';chinese relaxer'; or something for my hair?!?
    Simple.

    Ask you dad as well.

    Then tell your mom:

    ';Mom, I asked my dad to buy me the chinese relaxer becaused you didnt want to. If you won't, he said he will buy it for me as a christmas gift.';

In this way you are assured that your mom will talk to your dad and either one of them will get you what you asked for.

    Enjoy!

How to convince my mom to let me get a ';chinese relaxer'; or something for my hair?!?
Im not familiar with the ';Chinese relaxer'; but Ive had relaxer put in my hair by professionals and the chemicals are very bad for you hair and you scalp. It was stinging the whole time it was on my hair and then you have to go like 3 days with out washing you hair and so those some of those chemicals are still on your scalp and it makes it raw. All it did to my hair was make it more frizzier and brittle. I wouldnt suggest getting one. And plus the curly look is coming back in. Just get some mousse and scruch your hair. The mousse will keep the frizz under control. Thats what I do.
I got the relaxer during summer vacation.

First of all, the chemicals are not bad for your hair. It's perfectly safe. Tell her that if she does this for you, then you will stop complaining about your hair. Or, tell her that this can be your early christmas present.

It's so much easier to work with.

Mine costs approximately $70 and it is permanent.

    So, it's worth it.

    Good luck :)

When I was stationed in Iraq, I had my hair done by a lady from the Phillippines and she washed my hair before she put the relaxer on. Naturally I panicked, since this is NOT what we do in the states. However, my hair came out fabulous. Not sure what the reason behind the wetting was but it worked.

How long do i have to wait after washing my hair to put the relaxer in?

OK, I know I am a white girl, but I have had my hair relaxed. (If you could see my hair, you'd understand!)

If I were you, I would shampoo AFTER you relax. To be on the safe side, shampoo 3-4 times after you relax to get all the relaxer out. Getting all of it out is super important.

There is no special time you have to wait to relax after shampooing. Wait till your hair is dry, though. How long do i have to wait after washing my hair to put the relaxer in?
Until its completely dry,by then your pores will be closed and you can proceed with the relaxer, but honestly its not the best idea to use relaxer after washing your hair, they usually recommend not to wash it before doing it.=)How long do i have to wait after washing my hair to put the relaxer in?
the next day and avoid brushing it if possible, so you don't stimulate your scalp so it doesn't burn

I have a relaxer now, but i want to grow my hair out. And its real corase when it grows what to do? ?

My hair is relaxed now but I have been thinking about growing it out because i think its healthier. But when it grows out its so coarse and thick and it hurts because the curls are so tight. I was thinking of getting braids to grow my hair out. And I really dont like doing my hair. What to do???!!! Help me please!!! I have a relaxer now, but i want to grow my hair out. And its real corase when it grows what to do? ?
Braids are nice for keeping your hair protected and for growing your hair out without having to deal with your coarse curls. However, make sure you don't have super-tight or really small braids. These will damage the hair around your hairline.

You could also try doing two-strands twists, or flat-ironing your hair. If you do flat-iron, make sure to use a heat-protectant on your hair and avoid using high heat. As I am sure you know, coarse and thick hair can also be very fragile hair.

Whatever style you decide to do, I must please beg you NOT to use pink moisturizer of hair grease. Any petroleum- or mineral-oil based products are not good for coarse hair. They block the hair follicles are not conditioning for the scalp. These products don't help your hair and they could lead to breakage. Instead, use products with aloe vera, jojoba and olive oil. You can find many good products for reasonable prices; you just have to look around.

I look to these sites for my hair info:

I hope my answer helps you and Good luck!I have a relaxer now, but i want to grow my hair out. And its real corase when it grows what to do? ?
Having natural hair is a breeze when you learn how to take care of it. You just have to take time to educate yourself and become familiar with your hair (what works for it and what doesn't). It's going to take some commitment on your part but you can do it! Natural, coarse, and textured hair needs lots of moisture (Moisture is KEY) so it's important to find a good conditioner and hair oil that's right for your hair. If you don't like messing with your hair, then braids and twists are excellent options for growing out your hair. But just remember not to wear braids too tight and also to take very good care of your hair while they are in braids to prevent breakage and damage. Or else all of your effort will be in vain! You'll eventually have to decide when you're going to do ';the big chop'; and cut off all the relaxed ends. The part of the hair where the permed and natural hair meets becomes VERY weak and eventually begins to result in breakage and shedding. It can be an absolute nightmare! But anyway, I hope this helps. I have been natural for 8 years and I've been able to maintain my hair and achieve lots of growth with what I've learned. For more info on how to care for natural hair, check out my blog:

    Good Luck!
Braids work really well, just not micros. I have SUPER coarse hair also and have been growing it out for about 7 months and its down my back now, all i do is put pink lotion on the edges and brush through. I also use this olive oil scalp stuff work very well and smells really good. And every 2 weeks I wash with main n tail and condition with pantenes women of color conditioners. You could do this or just get braids, but remember black hair HAS to be moisturized because it is so fragile. Good Luck!

PS- Be patient it takes time!
    follow these tips

    # apply mayonnaise on your hair for two hours once a week

What does a relaxer do to black hair?

what does a relaxer really do to black hair and what types of chemical that are used to make the hair straightWhat does a relaxer do to black hair?
A relaxer makes a black persons hair straight. To tell you the truth i dont know what chemicals are used to make your hair straight. I suggest you to go to hair salon, if you want to really relax your hair. What does a relaxer do to black hair?
I was watching a show on mtv...true life ...and there was a black girl on the show talking about having her hair done...and she said she was getting a perm and she was commenting on people saying how she was getting her hair curled...and she said im BLACK a perm straightens my hair...so i guess perms straighten black hair...but that was like the first time that i ever heard that..i was shocked that i never knew...lol.
A relaxer breaks down the bonds in your hair. Everyone has chemical bonds holding thier hair together and giving each strand its individual characteristics - Salt bonds, Water bonds, and Dissulfide bonds.

Salt bonds are broken by changes in pH (ex. when you dye your hair)

Water bonds are broken by changes in Heat (ex. when you blow dry your hair)

However Dissulfide bonds can only be broken/ changed by chemical reactions.

A relaxer breaks down and changes the dissulfide bonds in your hair so instead of the bond saying ';your hair is curly'; the bond now has been broken down and changed to say ';your hair is straight';.

Sounds all good and dandy and it pretty much sounds along the same premise as a perm but it isn't at all. Relaxers are actaully ONE PH LEVEL AWAY FROM NAIR. That's right, a relaxer is just ONE pH level away from literally MELTING the hair off your head, which is why we hear so many horror stories about womens hair snapping off or falling out due to at-home relaxers. They mix something wrong, leave it on too long, apply heat, and all of a sudden they're not straighteneing - they're melting.
A relaxer is basicly gonna straightin out the curly roots(the wavey hair by the scalp) If the rest of your hair is straight then you should only put it on your roots. However if all of your hair is curly for the first application only you can apply it on all of your hair and it will bring the curl out of your hair but not perminatly. Your hair will look much longer and straightin much better. As far as the chemicals you would want to get a gental relaxer. If you are young the have them for children and if you are 18 and over them you should buy the one that goes with your hair type. Example....course, dry, damaged ect. Well hope this helps
When you say black hair I'm assuming that you mean hair of a black or African American person. If so, a relaxer will permanently straighten your hair, basically frying it. Then you will have to make sure that you see a stylist every week to maintain the chemical balance of your hair because if not it will dry out (more than it already has) and eventually break off. I strongly advise against chemical treatments. Try a good old fashion ';hot press'; if you need your hair straight.

  • Pressing hair or Relaxer?

I got curly, thinning hair and would like to wear my hair straight.Which one do you think I should do just press my hair out when I go to salon or should I get a hair realaxer.Pressing hair or Relaxer?
_WHATEVER U DECIDE, BE CAREFUL. ADDITIONAL STRESS ON THE HAIR WILL SPEED UP THE CURRENT PROCESS. GET A MILD RELAXER. MY SISTER IS A LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST/BEAUTICIAN.Pressing hair or Relaxer?
Neither. Pressing is very damaging to the hair and don't let me get on relaxers. Especially if your hair is thinning, you don't need to put any more stress on the hair.

My hair is natural but I am currently wearing wigs. I love them and people can't even tell that they are wigs. They think that they are sew-ins. So I personally, would recommend, whole of half wigs.
the chemicals that are in a relaxer are MUCH more damaging on your hair then what the heat of a iron will be
They both can be damaging to your hair, but relaxers last longer and you don't have to worry about pressing it again if it gets wet. As long as you take care of it, a relaxer won't be too bad. Aso try a hair piece or a weave. Those are good for some variety.
If your hair is thinning, then you need to go to a professional before you do anything. Go to a dermatologist that knows about hair and skin of your ethnicity. I am assuming that you aren't Caucasian. And even though hair is hair and skin is skin, trust me when I tell you that non-Caucasian hair and skin is NOT given as much study as non-Caucasian hair and skin. There are conditions in ethnic hair and skin that are not common in Caucasian skin and you want to make sure that your doctor has experience dealing with your problem.

If you decide to go to a hairdresser, make sure you go to one that specializes in healthy hair instead of one that does ';fly girl'; styles; ie: glue on weaves, unnatural hair colors, heavy spritzing, etc. Get several opinions before you do anything to lessen the chance of your hair being ruined.

    Good luck.
    i will prefer relaxer.
Relaxers last longer so I would go for the relaxer. Also I know you don't want to hear this but you english is incorrect. You HAVE curly hair you don't GOT curly hair. Sorry.
    A relaxer is better

I just got a fresh relaxer and cut to my hair yesterday and it is flat and what my wife calls: ';in shock';.?

How can I get some volume and movement into my hair. It is still in a condition of ';stiff';? Should I condition it?I just got a fresh relaxer and cut to my hair yesterday and it is flat and what my wife calls: ';in shock';.?
Relaxers dry out your hair and scalp, so you should always do a good penetrating deep conditioning treatment afterward. I don't know what the hair being in ';shock'; means, but make sure you keep your hair very moisturized from here on out and learn healthy hair practices, if you haven't already. Depending on how dry your hair is you should do deep conditioning treatments one a week or twice a month.

http://www.longhaircareforum.comI just got a fresh relaxer and cut to my hair yesterday and it is flat and what my wife calls: ';in shock';.?
yes condition it, that is why it is in shock. You should use roux porosity control or mendex. you can apply it to your dry hair then rinse out and see a difference. 1.99 small bottles, sally's.
More like fried, dyed, and laid to the side. Your hair is in shock/damage mode. Use a conditioner, or a hot oil treatment.
when you get a relaxer you're supposed to shampoo and condition your hair immediately after.

When you are pregnant is it true your not suppose to get a relaxer in your hair?

I had one and it didn't harm my babyWhen you are pregnant is it true your not suppose to get a relaxer in your hair?
They say some chemicals can penetrate the scalp, like relaxers and hair dye. When I was pregnant, my hair stylist would not relax my hair, so I wore braids the whole time. When you are pregnant is it true your not suppose to get a relaxer in your hair?
i dont think your supposed to have anything done to your hair or nails but not sure
You should be fine, yes ';they'; say the chemicals can be absorbed through the scalp, but who knows really, lots of people do it and have very healthy babies, just make sure you are in a well ventilated room. And that would be a rule, even if you weren't pregnant.
I couldn't find anything specific about relaxer-but here is an answer about hair coloring during pregnancy.

Q: Can I dye my hair if I'm pregnant?

A: Many moms-to-be give their colorist a holiday, but Dr. Robert Hartman, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lake Forest Hospital, Chicago says there is no danger coloring while pregnant. “It's an urban legend that chemically treating hair during pregnancy is unsafe,” he says. “Most of the restrictions and prohibitions for hair treatments come from years ago when harsh chemicals and peroxides were used.”

Still, pregnancy does change the texture, condition and growth cycle of your hair. To reduce the risk of renegade hormones spoiling a color, some salons won't color hair until after the first trimester. If you're concerned about chemicals penetrating the shaft, Dr. Hartman says waiting until mid-pregnancy should set your mind at ease. – Julia Rosien
Completely up to you. It will not harm you health wise but the fumes are a little strong if you have morning sickness. The only thing you need to be aware of is that hormones can increase the risk of the process not working as well, the same goes for perming.
it's not true........you can die perm and relax your hair while prego yourbaby will be fine and you will look and feel good
is it really true were not supposed to raise our arms over our shoulders because it will make the umbillical cord wrap around the babys neck?? no, it's fine, just use it sparingly and nothing that is too strong smelling.
i have never been pregnant but i believe this is a myth. my hair dresser was pregnant 3 times and worked through each of her pregnancies. all her babies are healthy.
No chemicals in the hair when you are pregnant: that is correct
Many women avoid chemical hair dyes and other treatments that could be absorbed into the scalp and passed in the blood to the baby.

Some of the chemicals in those things are toxic, expecially in the tiny, developing body in the womb.

I have Very curly hair and I want it to be more straight. Should I get a relaxer? Is it safe for my hair?

If you want your hair to straighten easier and your hair is VERY curly, I would definitely get a relaxer done. It will not make it completely straight (unless you get Japanese hair straightening) but it will calm down your curl a lot, eliminate a lot of frizz, and make it a lot easier to style straight and smooth. It is safe for your hair, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have a lot of highlights.I have Very curly hair and I want it to be more straight. Should I get a relaxer? Is it safe for my hair?
Get a straightening iron...a good one cost at least $65....or get that gel stuff that some black people useI have Very curly hair and I want it to be more straight. Should I get a relaxer? Is it safe for my hair?
I have extremely curly hair and I went to a salon and got it chemically straightened (which is I guess what a relaxer is) and it did make my hair straighter, however it wasn't what I had hoped for.

I pretty much still had to do my routine of blow drying and straightening with an iron. So I wouldn't waste your money. Just buy a GOOD straightener (Chi, Hot Tools) and use good products to protect your hair from damage.
You can use Bedhead. And a straigting iron. But wash out the Bedhead then use the Iron.

Ummm If i right its called ';Bedhair Straight'; Something with straight in the name!

When using a relaxer, does my hair have to be wet or dry?

it HAS to be dry. Here's what I do:

I first apply vaseline around my head area and on the scalp.

I apply it around my root area. Not at the end of my hair, or it would ';cut up';.

Then, I wait for about 10 minutes, and then wash it out. Apply the shampoo the relaxer came with, and if there are any pink spots in your hair, then that means there are still relaxer on your hair. So wash that part out.

    Then, I shampoo as regular.

Sorry, i gave you more than you asked for =]

  • In between perms [relaxer]-how to style hair?

i have a relaxer and im in need of a touch up right now.i have new growth. im getting a touch up in a few days. but for the time being, i need to know what i can do to my hair so that i can leave my house looking decent.

    anyone have any ideas?

i dont want to straighten it because im going to relax it soon and thats a big no-no.

thanks for the help.In between perms [relaxer]-how to style hair?
i have the same problem. if your hair is a little curly, you can put gel in it and pull it back. or, used ';doo-grow'; to pull it back. it makes it stay down, and makes it stronger. In between perms [relaxer]-how to style hair?
i was going to suggest a flat iron but since you said you don't wanna straighten it i will suggest that you braid it into about 8 or 10 cornrows going straight back at night. spritz some holding spray or get it damp(water will do). in the morning unbraid it and you will have some nice crimps! i'm in the same boat too as i'm gonna perm my hair closer to when school starts...
I usually put my hair up in a high ponytail and tie a scarf around my head. The scarf always seem to make it look decent even on the bad hair days.
    WEAVE.
Brush is back and hold it down with a head band. Maybe brush out a a bang and gel it to the side. I'm in the same situation but I'm thinking about leting my perm completely grow out and getting a cute curly fro for a year.
you could tie it back in a pony tail, or a qiff and a pony tail, half up, wet curls, a hat is a good option...

My hair fell out after putting relaxer in it?

i do not want a wig. is there a way to get extensions all over my head to look like natural hair growth?

    I am completely bald :(

I've been crying for two hours straight now.

    And if there isn't

can you give me some websites with.. ugh wigs.

You guys don not understand how important my hair was.

It was the ONLY part I liked about myself. :(My hair fell out after putting relaxer in it?
you can definitly get extensions all over. im not sure how much hair you have left but you can get a sewn weave which is where they braid the hair you do have and sew hair onto it. it looks natural and full when done right and can also give your real hair time to grow. you can also use hair glue to glue hair tracks in. this looks more natural but is really meant to make your hair look fuller and give it a little extra length. if you do decide to go with a wig i recommend a lace front wig. buy a lace front wig that is customized especialy for you. when done correct it looks natural. in my opion bangs make the wig look even more believable. make sure that you get hair that is natural and not synthetic. this way you can wash it, blow dry it, flat iron it, and even curl it like your own natural hair.

good luckMy hair fell out after putting relaxer in it?
like all of your hair fell out?

im really sorry for you, i know how important hair is.

Just try to make the best of it! you can always try wearing scarfs, but obviously you dont want to do that everyday, so buy a wig or even a few, that way you can at least be creative and have fun with it.

go to a beauty supply store, where they sell them, (google beauty supply stores in your area) and get one

    good luck

I used a regular no-lye relaxer on my hair yesterday and need to know if it's ok to dye my hair black today?

id suggest waiting at least another day but if u absolutely want to put color in today then go with a rinse.I used a regular no-lye relaxer on my hair yesterday and need to know if it's ok to dye my hair black today?
I would recommend that you wait at least 2-3 days before you put a dye into your hair. Within these 2-3 days, your hair would be strong enough to handle the chemicals.

Is it better to straighten your hair every day, or just do the Japanese relaxer?

what's a japanese relaxer? Is it better to straighten your hair every day, or just do the Japanese relaxer?
I get regular relaxers. They work perfectly on my hair, and I straighten it. It all depends on your hair type. My hair is insanely curly, and I have to have chemical processes to tame it. My straigtener also gets to 450degrees farenhit. Plus, the Japanese relaxer is very expensive. Do whatever you feel is best for your hair.Is it better to straighten your hair every day, or just do the Japanese relaxer?
straighten it yourself, japanese straightening can be damaging and can make your hair very dry and brittle, even get the do it urself straightening kits will be better, it should still maintain the condition of the hair.
Japanese Relaxer is quite expensive but if you can afford it i would def go for that. it does take a long time and you have to be careful about washing your hair after but it does wonders.
Don't do a relaxer! It is very damaging no matter what the stylist tells you. My sister got one done and now she says her hair is like steel wool. It's way better to just straighten it every day. :)
Well curling your hair everyday will dry your hair out, so do the Japanese relaxer, whatever that is
keeping your hair natural is the best thing but if you get tired of straightening your hair every days i would get a strand test of the japanese straightening and see how it goes from there.
i would recommend a Japanese relaxer because a strait iron will burn your hair unless you got a $600 one.
How about keeping ur hair natural?

Can i have permanent hair straightening if ive had a relaxer in my hair before?

help! is cause i was thinking about getting my hair permanently straightened because i hate having it curly because its too frizzy oh yeah but ive had a a relaxer in my hair i relaxed it like 3 or 4 times already but im thirteen and my mom said that when im 14 i can get it permanent ....but will my hair fall out because i put a hair relaxer before in my life ? can i have tit permanent if i dont use the relaxer anymore for a year??Can i have permanent hair straightening if ive had a relaxer in my hair before?
don't do it, it may not damage your hair, but it will damage your health, what good is nice hair if it falls out after chemo? Can i have permanent hair straightening if ive had a relaxer in my hair before?
take it easy on chemically doing anything with your hair. once it's damaged, it takes longer to get it back to normal wear and tear.
No, your hair won't fall out. You can habe it permanent. Just don't do it too often, or you will mess up your hair.
u can do to but once every 2 years

Will my hair fall out if I used a relaxer then 4 months later use a reconstructive perm?

Depends on your hair. If it's healthy you should be ok. If your hair is fried, it might dissolve completely. Will my hair fall out if I used a relaxer then 4 months later use a reconstructive perm?
Its best to wait longer cause it damages your hair. However all of your hair will NOT fall out but it might cause some of it to fall out and be thinner. Will my hair fall out if I used a relaxer then 4 months later use a reconstructive perm?
It all depends on your hair. I can relax my hair, blow dry it, and dye it all in the same day and not a hair will fall out. it is all about elasticity.
The relaxer really needs to grow out or be cut out. After 4 months you only have approximately 1-2 inches of growth so unless you want hair that's 1-2 inches long, I suggest you let it grow out. It's two totally different chemical mixes that shouldn't mix. All of your hair might not fall out but, it will be like bubble gum and very damaged and brittle.
relaxers, perms, bleach all have the ability to destroy the integrity of your hair. im not saying its a solid yes, i dont know what your hair looks like. but major possibility is a lot of breakage, hair turning into mush then rolling off, and an altogether not so pretty look.

i would definately look into some moisture/protein treatments, and get a good trim too if your hair looks toast.
  • how to apply
  • How can you keep your hair straight for a long time without putting a relaxer?

Even though I still get my hair relaxed I don't do it nearly as much as I use to. Maybe once every four months. I bought a Chi 1 inch flat iron and it is AMAZING! It straightens my roots and everything. Then I wrap it and in the morning my hair looks like it just got permed. I wish I had a before and after picture to show but I don't so just take my word for it and buy a CHI.How can you keep your hair straight for a long time without putting a relaxer?
the only way i can think is to not wash it... the only problem being that it gets greasy. i work at a drug store, and we sell this product called Pssst, or something like that. what it is, is a spray on shampoo that requires no water... it just absorbs the oils and stuff. id straighten your hair with a flat iron and then try a product like that. How can you keep your hair straight for a long time without putting a relaxer?
you can have straight hair w/out a relaxer, by buying a straightening iron (ceramic is the best) don't get your hair wet. And wrap it up at night. If you feel like you need to wash your hair you can try waterless shampoo ( its like a powder )

My hair is pressed and I want to put a relaxer in it. Is it okay or should I wash it first?

dont relax it now, that would be very bad depending on your hair type.

you can but dont leave it in for a long time or use the organic relaxer or olive oil relaxer. it dosent burn when you use it.My hair is pressed and I want to put a relaxer in it. Is it okay or should I wash it first?
i have a relaxer in me hair

and its not good dont get it done to often or your hair will start falling out

no joke hope this helps (x)My hair is pressed and I want to put a relaxer in it. Is it okay or should I wash it first?
Well if you get a relaxer get it in about a week don't wash your hair first. If you have really thick coarse hair. Use a super no-lye relaxer (african pride, fabolaxer, soft and beautiful) or a coarse lye relaxer (such as motions).
    Are you doing a touch-up?

If it's a relaxer for virgin hair, consider that a relaxer will weaken your hair and make it more prone to damage from combing, the elements, ect.

If for a touch up, do it WITHOUT washing your hair. The natural oils and products already in your hair and on your scalp, though maybe small amounts, will actually provide some protection, though little, from the active chemical ingredients that relax your curl pattern.

That may not sound like a big enough deal to not wash, but it might keep you from chemical burns, that will turn into sores and scabs on your scalp within days.

Hey. You should wait at least a week before relaxing it. But if you got it pressed within the last couple weeks I would wait 3 or 4 weeks before relaxing it. You shouldn't put too much on your hair in such a short amount of time. If you are waiting for the 3 or 4 weeks to do the relaxer then yes, go ahead %26amp; wash your hair %26amp; condition it now. But if you plan on relaxing in the next week then no do not wash it.

And what type of relaxer you get depends on what type hair you have. If you have fine hair then a box perm will work fine for you. But if you have thick hair then you should go to a hairdresser %26amp; get a professional perm done. Which I recommend going to a professional for your perms anyway.
its better to keep it press that way when u relax it, it would be straight already.
my hair is natural and on occasion i flat iron it. i have went from relaxed to natural 3 times in the past 15 years and this time i sticking to my natural hair. our hair is beautiful and there is so much you can do with it. yes a relaxer is easier but natural you have more versatility; but to answer your question you don't have to unless you plan on relaxing it 24hrs or more after washing. why? because after washing your pores are open and it will burn immediately.
I would not wash my hair first. When you wash your hair this will cause your scalp to become irritated, may cause your relaxer to burn your scalp. This is caused a chemical burn. When you put the relaxer in be sure you take it to the very end of your hair. if time or money allows the first time you should let a professional do it!!
i think u should wash it and wear it natural for about 7 days before u get i relaxed

Dying Hair After Using A Relaxer?

I've been getting ready for a formal event this Sunday, and had plans on getting my hair cut and dyed on Friday, but I had a relaxer put into my hair today. Will this make my hair fall out or severely damage it? I really want it done for Sunday, but I just wanted to know what I'm dealing with..

Any advice would be appreciated.Dying Hair After Using A Relaxer?
If you are African American (black) yes that would damage your hair... I would not recommend you dye your hair at all. There are other ways to cut and change your hair color. I recommend a quick weave. You wont have to take the risk of damaging your hair.Dying Hair After Using A Relaxer?
    dont dye it!

there's a chance your hair could fall out if u dye the whole thing..

too many chemicals in too little time!

I have not used a relaxer in my hair in 7mths.I am tired of weave what products can I use to manage my hair?

B/F living in Alaska I need helpI have not used a relaxer in my hair in 7mths.I am tired of weave what products can I use to manage my hair?
Well for starters, if your hair is course but somewhat managable; you know like how they tell you to time your hair on the ';home relaxers'; by texture, maybe something like medium, I hope you understand. Try using ';infusium 23-moisturology'; shampoo, cond. and leave-in treatment, by the end of the week you'll see the difference on how soft your own hair becomes. However, to style it use ';smooth and shine'; products. Ex: ';60sec. hair repair treatment(do it only twice a week) and their mousse/gel';, it has worked for me b/c I too don't relax my hair every 2-3 months like they say you should. I do it about once a year. Oh, one more product, if you don't mind using grease/oil on your hair, you can also use a coconut based scalp conditioner, it relieves dryness to the scalp and all the products smell wonderful. I personally use all these products and they work for me, hopefully it'll work for you! Please, let me know, if you try it, if it worked, if you don't mind.

Good luck!I have not used a relaxer in my hair in 7mths.I am tired of weave what products can I use to manage my hair?
For the record, black women are not the only women who wear weaves....and its not always meant to look like your own hair. Its a styling option that many women (and even men) utilize just to try something different (I thought I'd throw that out there before someone else made an ignorant blanket statement like that).

Well, are you interested in wearing your natural hair the way it is now, or are you looking to get a relaxer?

The only thing I can recommend if you don't want to continue wearing weaves are braids, which are another form of weave...either that, or decide whether you're going to start wearing your hair natural or relax it back out again.

The two textures are going to start working against each other (if they haven't already), and the relaxed ends will break off, and you'll be left with just your natural hair, which is stronger than the relaxed ends, so you need to make a choice between the three.
weekly deep conditioning using hair mask like kerastase or hot oil treatment using olive oil

this will nourish ur scalp and keep ur hair soft and manageable

blow dry ur hair straight occasionally

use leave-in conditioner on ur damp hair and make sexy curls
